The power of legos…

I came home in a very pissy mood tonight. I am swamped at work – way too much to do and not enough time left before the deadlines to be nice to people and allow “slack” for not coming through on deliverables. I came home, ate some dinner, and then just sat and tried to relax… then I heard my kids downstairs and the familiar rustling that only comes from digging around in a box full of legos. I couldn’t help but smile; I went downstairs and grabbed my own box and started to collect the pieces I would need to build a protective fortress that would keep out the stress of work and allow me to escape to a world of Power Miners, Star Wars, and Dwarf Kings.

Grant was crafting a space ship, and Haley was putting the finishing touches on a cute little drum set – it was fun to see the different projects take shape – and minutes turned into moments, which in turn took the hour hands of the clock on a magical ride into the future.

“You don’t play legos with us as much anymore” remarked Grant… and I agreed and we went back to re-creation.

Amazing, the healing power of little blocks and time well spent with kids.
