Last night I went to the Provo Creative Meetup at the new home of Provo Creative. The theme for the night was one light shooting – with an emphasis on harsh lighting and black and white photos (but my emphasis is always on black and white photos so hey – )
Anyway – it was a great time with what seemed to be around 25 photographers and just as many models. There were 8 or 9 different “set ups” with lights ranging from the simplest speedlights to beauty dishes (My personal fav!) and other strobes. I even got to see a kick ass homemade ring flash by Corey Luke that looked like a production model – this thing was awesome! I pretty much stuck around Pete Stott’s beauty dish setup – and man oh man – I need to get me one of those. I loved all the different options you get from it – diffused, empty, covered, reflected… it is just plain awesome.
Here are some of my favorites from the shoot.
Special thanks to all the models and photographers who came and participated – it was a very fun event!
So I’m curious. Is it your ultimate goal to do this as your profession? Or do you prefer to keep it informal. I ask because you are so good, I can certainly imagine it being commercially viable. My husband tried to turn his photography into a wedding and portrait business several years ago. Result: he put the camera down and didn’t pick it up for a few years. But now he’s found his love of it again and is out all the time capturing beauty. But weddings and portraits? I doubt he’ll ever try that again.
Well thank you for the kind comments… something about shooting a wedding scares me to death – I don’t know if it is the expectations or the mother-in-laws, but it just gives me the creeps. I am glad to hear your husband picked up the camera again – For right now I am just having fun and learning… but I am going to start to pick up a few commercial jobs here and there, but mainly just so I can upgrade my gear and buy more lenses!
Does your husband post any of his work on your blog? I would love to see it.
Take care.
