OK, I guess color has its purpose… but that still doesn’t change the fact that whenever I pull up the camera to my eye, how the photo will look in black and white is the first and usually last thing that flops around like a fat guy falling down a spiral staircase.
So you decide. Here are two photos, relatively same subject… a gorgeous church in Kosice, Slovakia. I took these this morning out the window of my hotel room. (I need to see about getting up on the roof of this building!)
I shot one and edited it in my customary black and white style, with a square crop (I love that medium format feel) and the other I did in color. Bright hurt my eyes and make me want to go back to bed color. (Okay, maybe not hurt my eyes.)
Which do you prefer?
Color!
And I love your last post
Thanks V – there are walls and doors and entryways like that all through the city – the main problem is some of the alleyways are so narrow, I need a super wide angle lens to get a good shot.
I like the B&W one here, although either one feels like it could use a bump in contrast. Probably just the time of day it was shot
Your previous post, however, had color worth sharing. This one… doesn’t do a ton foe me
Yea, I agree with the contrast – it was a quick edit before I shot out to the office, but I will definitely re-edit when I get home… I love the scene – that one will probably go on the wall.
