OK… so for the last couple of years I have been using a combination of task management software and good old fashioned note taking and making lists in an attempt to subdue the monstrosity of tasks before me… I have yet to find a solution, however, that will allow me to heroically slay the beast and stand triumphant at the end of an accomplishment filled day or week.

My software weapons of choice have been OmniFocus and Things. My hard copy tools have been Moleskine journals and my Midori travel journals.

I love little notebooks and journals, and I love good Mac software. My problem is I can’t figure out the best way to fight this battle…

I have an iPhone for work, and an iPhone for personal use – both of which have the iPhone versions of Omnifocus and Things…

I have an iPad for work and an iPad for school (University of Utah Executive MBA program – Go Utes!) and I have a MacBook Pro for work, and a couple different Macs at home – all are loaded with the software.

Having the tools isn’t the problem… I am starting to think having too many tools is! I think I need to pick one combination and just toss the rest out and stick with it… get to know it and make the system mine.

I love OmniFocus – but I am not sure it is the best for getting everything down. A friend introduced me to Things, and it was shiny and new so I decided to give it a try… at the end of the day I guess I am still looking for something that grabs me and from the start makes my life easier.

I really do not want to try and read David Allen’s GTD book again.

From said book: “No matter how big and tough a problem may be, get rid of confusion by taking one little step toward solution. Do something. – George F. Nordenholt

This is my one little step:

Sorry Things, its just not working out. It isn’t you, it is me.

I am going to commit to using OmniFocus as my main task management tool. I have been a huge fan of The Omni Group ever since I first opened a trial version of OmniOutliner 6 years ago. I use their software extensively at work and like the company – I want to make OmniFocus work for me.

I love the way OmniFocus syncs EFFORTLESSLY through all my devices – whether I capture that to-do or task on my personal iPhone, or my work iPad – it is there on every machine I own with a simple sync. I currently sync through the Omni Sync Server, and another reason I support The Omni Group is because they offer this service.

With the amount of projects currently on my professional plate, and the added mountain of homework from the U and school projects – I need to get better at capturing tasks… and then getting them organized for completion…

Lets Git Er Done OmniFocus!
