why and so it goes…?
I stole the phrase and so it goes from the wonderful anti-war novel Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnugut. And so it goes was a phrase used by the main character in reference to killing and death.
I adopted it after my return home from Iraq in 2004 after reading Slaughterhouse 5. I have lost many friends to war and violence, and so it goes…
It may sound flippant, or uncaring, but the way I look at it, it is just life. Karma, fate, God’s plan, chaos… what happens happens good or bad, life or death.
And so it goes.
